I have printed my change cup and it came out pretty good! It fits in my cup holder perfectly and will help me with my change problem. The only thing is the cap doesn’t fit inside but I think it would be better if I got some Velcro strips to attach the cap or I could just forget the cap and just use it as a change cup. Either way, it still did what I needed it to.
Unity was a lot of fun to play with. I wish we would have had more time so we could create some thing cool but we made a simple vr world. You can roam and jump on blocks to get to the north where we put snowman and mountains. We got it working on vr but the remotes weren’t working properly so we couldn’t get up to the north.
I choose to use Fusion 360 to make my change cup. It was a pretty simple because I didn’t want to get too crazy with it so it will work. I made the cap rubber so it would fit in the hole easily and I made sure to take the correct measurements for my cup holder. The cup is 70 millimeters in diameter and 100 millimeters tall, enough room for plenty of change. The slot for change is 30 x 10 millimeters large enough for any coin. I shelled the cylinder with 5mm thickness and made the cap 65mm with filet edges to squeeze in the gap.
I choose to make a change holder for my car. I always have a lot of change all over my car, I need somewhere to put it all so I am going to make a piggy bank style coin collector for my cup holder.
I can definitely see how fusion 360 is a more advanced 3d modeling application than Freecad and Tinkercad. It allows you to do a lot more and give you a better higher quality model. I was able to complete all of the models we did in class and I was able to add some finishing touches to them, however the aviators were a disaster. I had no idea where to start so I just did some basic shapes and was impressed I was able to do what I did on my own. I struggle using this on my own but I still think Fusion 360 is better even though it is a little harder to use.
So Professor von Hollen said FreeCad was hell and it was. I struggled to do what I wanted and there were so many ways you could mess it all up. The box we created in class was fairly easy but there were a few steps I got lost on but eventually figured it out. The desk clamp was giving me some trouble so I went the simple route and put a hole that would fit my cord perfectly and slide right onto my desk. Lastly, the goal for the last model was something that fits together. I wanted to do something like two highlighter caps but I failed miserably so I did what I could.
Our group has been tasked with making an app on MIT app inventor. At first, we discussed doing some type of maze but after further discussion we decided to make it a house. We discussed different ideas and storylines for the game and decided to make it a little eerie. The storyline of the game begins with the player waking up in the living room of Ghost House. Different objectives and clues lead the player to a secret room, reveling a golden key. With the key the player can then escape Ghost House. In class Monday, we really established the storyline and how we can do it in app inventor. We began making the codes for the app and we have made good headway into finishing it.
Working on MIT App inventor on Wednesday in class was a little confusing but I was successful in getting the app to work. From the beginning, I was little lost when we started doing the blocks and inserting different contingencies. I did however, get my emulator running and I copied the blocks from the board that professor Von Hollen had done, which gave me a successful app. The app showed up on my emulator and I pressed the button 20 times to win. I was very impressed with myself that I was able to even get that working. I don’t think I really inserted the “YOU WIN” part correctly on the second page. I inserted a text box but I don’t think that’s what I was supposed to, I did get the “YOU WIN” part to show up at least. All in all, I think it was a pretty successful day on App Inventor. When I tried to pull up the emulator over the weekend to get screenshots of my work, I ran into a little trouble getting it up. After a couple attempts to get it open and reinstalling it, I was able to get it to work and get my app working again by myself which I did not think I was going to be able to do. I look forward to attempting more and hopefully I get the hang of it soon.
My name is Dalton Shaw and I am a Senior at Florida State University. I will be graduating this August and receiving a degree in marketing. I am not the best with technology so I hope this Emerging technology course teaches me a few things that will be very resourceful in many challenges I might face in life. Technology is continuously evolving and it is very interesting and terrifying at the same time. I look forward to learning about the immense world of technology.
